Dominique JEULIN is Director of Research and Professor in  Ecole des Mines de Paris, which he joined in 1986.  He is currently Scientific Adviser at Centre  de Morphologie Mathématique

He was teaching Mines-ParisTech He was teaching Mines-ParisTech courses on models of Random Structures, and on Physics and Mechanics of Random Media, and he was in charge of the doctoral formation in mathematical morphology  (2002-2014).

Since 1986, he was at the head of the “Physics of Heterogeneous Media” group, with activities in three laboratories of Ecole des Mines de Paris:  the Centre de Morphologie Mathématique (Fontainebleau), the  Centre de Géostatistique (Fontainebleau), and the Centre des Matériaux P.M. Fourt (Evry), where he was Scientific Adviser. In 1974 he joined IRSID, where he developed image analysis for materials of steel industry.

Civil Mining Engineer from the Nancy’s School of Mines (1972), Doctor-Engineer in Geostatistics and in Mathematical Morphology in 1979, he became Docteur d’Etat ès Sciences Physiques in 1991. Involved in image analysis and materials science for nearly 50 years, he is co-author of more than 500 publications, including several books. In June 2018, a Workshop was organized in Oleron on « Physics and mechanics of random media ».  In June 2021,  he published the book Morphological Models of Random Structures.

He presented about 440 communications, including over 130 invited lectures in scientific congresses. He was member of the scientific committee of 40 international congresses. He supervised 50 PhD students.

From 2000 to 2003, he was Vice President of the ISS (International Society for Stereology). He was  President of the ISS for the period 2004-2007.

Member of 10 Scientific Societies, he is involved in many collaborations in France and in foreign countries. He is member of the Editorial Board of Journal of Microscopy,  and of  Image Analysis and Stereology.

He was awarded by the French SF2M with the Rist medal (1984) and with the Chevenard medal (2016). He is Chevalier des Palmes académiques.

His main current interest covers the theoretical prediction of physical properties of random media (fracture statistics models, homogenization of mechanical and optical properties of composite materials and of biological tissues), models and simulations of random media and of nanostructures, 3D image analysis, probabilistic segmentation of images, applications to Materials Science, Biology and Vision.
